Style Research Images

I think that colour will be an important aspect to my environment. It will be a good asset that I can use to evoke emotions.

I really like the environment art featured in the Rayman series. The below image uses a really nice colour palette and the sense of depth within the image works really well.

The shapes within the environment are relatively simple yet the lighting really give the environment depth. Through researching reference images, I found that I really like the low detail style environments. I would really like to use a v cam style environment in Flash so that it has an exploration type feel.

Because of my coding experience, I think my environment could lack in interactive features, however I'm going to research different techniques that will allow the environment art to stand out. If it looks nice, the lack of interactivity shouldn't be a problem.

Another aspect to this project I think is important to my development is designing a character. My skills lie in character design and I think this will give me a good starting point for the style I want to use in my game. I haven't focused much on environment art before so anything that will help me grasp a style is improtant.

From my initial research into the author choices  I haven't had much luck finding something that would suit the ideas I'm having so far. I want something that is quite 'trippy' and surreal so I can give the aesthetic a lot of freedom.
