These are my final renders in illustrator of my art assets
This is the combined view of my side scrolling platformer design. The large tree is a nice touch as it messes about with the scale giving it the mystical feeling I was looking for. It also gives me the option to design a third environment within the tree where I could put evil creatures like spiders etc.
There is a tunnel entrance at the end of the map so that you can enter the cavern area. This is a final design as things could change as I move into flash.
Finally came to a cloud design that I was happy with. It has the 3d depth I was looking for and suits the environment better than my previous attempts.

Below is the final background plane with mountains, clouds, trees etc.
I was really happy with this background. The depth is really helped by the moon and the shadows it casts. The final grass section has reduced shadows since the last attempts which stops it drawing your eye too much. The shadows on the trees were strategically placed to look as if the moon was casting them. This makes the entire image sit better in the frame and in the background allowing the foreground platforms to appear clearer.
Here's a screenshot of my illustrator window. It's very messy but it shows my process and my various attempts at different coloured skys/backgrounds.
